You might try rubbing any frictive surface, the sides and bottoms of the drawers, with paraffin wax. Really cover it thoroughly. It works wonders for drawers.

I have an almost identical story of arriving in California and mis-purchasing this chest of drawers from IKEA. After too long a time wrestling with it, I decided to dispense with the frame and just use the drawers on shelves. And I cut up the frame to insert into a couple of those drawers as separators.YMMV
I enjoy your emails. You have told this old DIYer a few tricks I did not know.
I do take issue with your last statement on removing rust with a rotary wire brush. Surely you have heard of Evaporust?
It's essential for de-rusting parts without damaging anything, or changing the surface finish.
That was Eric Kaplan, not me, Rex. I love Evaporust and use it often.

Yes, I've been meaning to try that. Thanks for the reminder. I'm sure it will at least help somewhat.
I also find this solid dry lubricant good for lubricating saw blades and zippers.
