Theodore Gray namecheck! I hosted him at Google: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMJtieqVUc4

The fun bit was getting permission from Security for him to use fire indoors. They wanted a "fire extinguishing plan." He said, "my plan is to have a fire extinguisher."

Thanks for Tips & Tools - Issue #172. I enjoyed it, as always.

Regarding the pronunciation of "Knipex": While living in Europe I found that outside of the English-speaking countries that an "i" was most often pronounced with an "ee" sound... so "Kuh Ni Pex" (hard K as with most Germanic languages, "ee" for i) sounds right. If it were an American company, then English/US pronunciation would make sense. I know... who cares lol!

Hi Gar, I don't know if you have published this tip yet, but I have become a big fan of using CA glue to hold together the splits that the dry, cold weather causes in my hands. Despite my best efforts at moisturization, a dab of medium thick or thin CA glue seals the cracks and prevents the two sides of the crack from moving relative to each other which is what causes the pain. My discovery of water-thin glue in this newsletter is the best solution I have tried yet. My only hope is that the glue is not going into my blood stream, accumulating, and will cause me to seize up entirely at some point. I guess periodic acetone baths are not such a bad idea....Hmmm.

Just picked up a used copy of Jackson and Day’s ‘Tools’. My new favorite, you’ve done it again oh mighty tool tipster! Thanks for keeping it real. My tip from experience this week is always double check the color bands on wire resistors in what I call the confusable-order-of-magnitude values. I just spent two weeks troubleshooting an analog synthesizer build and finally tracked the problem to two measly resistors of the same value in a critical circuit. They were supposed to be 4.7M ohms, but the two that came with the kit (and I installed without checking) were 4.7 ohms. Easy fix, easy packaging mixup. Yellow-purple-green, not yellow-purple-gold. The tool that helped me there was Adafruit’s free Circuit Playground app.
